CFP for 2012

Current Innovative Research in Theatre Design

Conference on Scenography
Prague, 19-21 October, 2012

The conference will be held under the auspices of the Arts and Theatre Institute (ATI) in Prague, in collaboration with the Scenography Working Group of the International Federation for Theatre Research (FIRT/IFTR) and will take place at the Arts and Theatre Institute in Prague.

The aim of the conference is to explore issues of foremost significance in theatre research today and pertaining to space design in performing arts (we consider all visual elements of performance space—except movement of actors/dancers—as part of space design). Our goal is to go beyond the descriptive “performance review” and try to elucidate the impact of the latest findings in neuroscience as well as the impact of the use of visual multimedia on our approach to scenography research. How should we explore the rich diversity of the technologies used today in performing arts, what methodology can be of help and what are its tools, how can neuroscience help both the practitioner and the researcher? How can present day methodologies help us in our investigations both of the present and of the past? What is the impact of the ever-growing dramatic role of space on the other components of the performance and on the audience?

You are invited to take an active part in our investigation and discuss the issues mentioned above in connection with your current research work. Please e-mail a proposal of no more than 250 words for a 20 minute paper (including visual material) and a one paragraph CV by May 31, 2012 to the attention of the conference coordinator Dr. Irene Eynat-Confino (Tel-Aviv University, Member of the FIRT Scenography Working Group and past Member of the Executive Committee of FIRT) at eynconf@post.tau.ac.il.

Authors of accepted papers will be notified via email by June 15, 2012. Once the proposal is accepted, the participant will proceed to registration via e-mail. The registration fee is 60 Euros, to be paid on arrival in Prague.

The papers will be considered for publication in Theatre Arts Journal: Studies in Scenography and Performance.

Contact email: eynconf@post.tau.ac.il
Deadline for submissions: May 31, 2012
